• Bonnie and Clyde

    November 2015

Early this spring, my brother and his wife stumbled upon two baby orphaned raccoons. I quickly volunteered to assume the role of daddy (and mother) so as to take good care of them. They were barely two weeks old and kept me up every two hours to feed them from a bottle and cuddle them. My sister gave them their names; these masked bandits deserved, Bonnie and Clyde. They were the sweetest pets I've ever had, and kept me company for weeks in my studio. They're now living happily with other raccoons on a wildlife refuge and even though I'm sure they don't remember me, I will always remember the precious moments I spent with them. I took painstaking time on their portraits, and I tried to capture their individual personalities. Clyde had bigger, floppy ears and always had a cute bewildered look on his face while he followed his big sister around. Bonnie was extremely curious, very vocal, and was a big mischief maker to say the least. These paintings of them hold a very special place in my heart, and I'm so glad you've given me the chance to share these paintings of my kids with you.

I love little black bears. This little guy reminds me of a puppy as he explored his spring home! Like so many other bear paintings I’ve done, I used my friend Denise Hilley’s bear photography as reference for this piece!

  • Humility by Abraham Hunter

    Humility by Abraham Hunter

This painting is a quite a bit unique in my body of work. I saw an old black and white image of a zoo lion looking up at a light and was inspired by the lion’s powerful pose as well as the feeling of submissiveness and innocence in his eyes. I saw a great deal of symbolism that I just had to rush and paint.

The Bible refers to Christ symbolically as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. It represents His power, majesty, and everlasting kingdom reign. Just imagine how the omnipotent King Of Kings and Lion of Judah endured the greatest anguish ever recorded in history in the Garden of Gethsemane. In complete humility and knowing that he was about to die a horrible death for the sins of all mankind, He did not do His own will, but instead did the will of His Father in Heaven. Imagine how hard it was to obey… but yet he did it and triumphed!

In this painting, a beautiful, bold, kingly lion looks to heaven at the light in submission to the next command he receives from his master. The background is reminiscent of Gethsemane. We are all striving to be more like Christ. We enjoy the strength and promise and power that we have in Him, but are we always humble like Jesus was? Do we do exactly what he commands? Even when everything in us wants to run away?

  • Joys of Summer by Abraham Hunter

I’ve been working on this one for awhile and I’m really excited to finally see how you all like it!! It has a Ruby-throat, Anna’s, Calliope, and Black-chinned hummingbird, and then I added one lovely lady hummingbird! I went to Kroger and bought a bunch of different flowers to combine for reference. I really tried to capture the buzzing, high energy of these dazzling birds and the life and color of summer! I hope you all like it!

This image is the second in the Joys of the Seasons Series. Tidings of Comfort and Joy was the first in the series and was near "sold out" status before the second in the series was released. Enjoy these beautiful songbirds in all four seasons when you collect the entire series.

  • Sweet Dreams

    February 2016

These baby foxes have been playing all day, and finally exhausted, are ready for a nap. For Mama it couldn't have come too soon. She is probably all tuckered out too from trying to keep up with them the whole day... but she still has to go out and find food for the family. A mama's work is never done, as they say. I'm sure that she will find a little time to herself now that the little ones are both having Sweet Dreams.

  • Tranquility

    Tranquility by Abraham Hunter

    May 2016

This little whitetail deer fawn is taking a rest in a quiet summer meadow. His mother has left him alone to nap, and he is peacefully awaiting her return. This fawn reminds me of the scripture in Isaiah , "You will keep him in perfect peace, those whos mind is steadfast, because they trust in you." Our heavenly father will come back for us very soon. Despite all of the craziness in the world today, we have the promise of perfect peace inside. I hope each time you see this fawn, he reminds you to be still, and soak up the peace that surpasses all understanding.
